Is the Bubble Bursting?

a lovely morning after a 6 hr slumber ... class to start with ... better than usual ... got fresh n singing to "Oru Maalai" left in a very good mood to meet Mr aAnju ... taking a casual left turn ... only to be in red alert ... on S.O.B was overtaking an ambi which was turning in right ... basically this nut dude almost came right into me ... I was unscathed for I was drivin slow

n then down to the ATM ... no parking space :( okie livable ... an insouciant reply to my questions by the security ... I come back to see two bikes parker perpendicular at the back of my vehicle X-( ... why don't ppl have the least botheration for others? ... what if it were an old person in my place? ... does he have to wait for the moron who parker that way? ... THIS IS INSANE

and then for no parking space the guys jammed vehicles agains one another ... a brand new pulsar ... n a TVS with its wide knee guard stuck into the former ... the guy had to scratch to get his TVS out ... the owner then comes to should

if this place cannot give a basic quality to life and leads to bad ethics in society, how will people have good ethics at their profession? in the west strangers r so courteous to wish you as you walk past ... here the place is soooo fraught that people just become irate by nature. Who is to blame? everyone points their fingers

I don't think chennai is upto the influx ... n this is just the beninning ... IT surge is happening ... just as in bangalore :( (thats place is saturated) ... madras cannot handle it ... I avoid all this trouble by opening my shop in the early hours n closing it a bit early ... but sometimes u just can't avoid it u know

what incentive have I got to like this place? the fact is I do like it ... but I'm not gonna talk rave bout this place like some of my friends abroad do ... neither bout the place they stay ... but as you go on you expect some quality in life ... I don't see it happening around her ... I'm not rich enuf to own a car n employ a chauffeur for it :p ... if I did I'd proly own a web-space by now :D ...

but if I did, would it be any better? :-?

6 Degrees of Seperation

a small world it indeed is :)

well whatz with the topic? ... this is not one of my regular planned posts ... just rang bells ... during my last visit to b'lore some science buff's with whome I had a blast came up with this stuff ... I used to be a tech savy but I felt in doubt ... guess its always an ocean when it comes to what you don't know ;)

Degrees of Seperation is the number of connecting nodes b/w two entities ... lets take the internet ... it is said that in this complex web any source n destination are seperated by utmost 20 (or 19 :-?) hops or links ... @ the max ... thats why the mathematical term degree :) ... hmm ... interesting?

and it is said that any 2 humans can relate with just 6 people to connect them ... this goes by the sheer virtue of every individuals social links ... tho I still have trouble accepting it ... I sincerely appreciate the concept

but what bout in the blogsphere ... I'v been blogging for more than a year now ... in its true spirit lately ... n usually I only keep myself connected well to a small circle ... 80/20 principle :) ... I beat around the bush n I see the same ppl in the blog circles ... of course referals ... but 2 many without referals ... its like a mini community ... reminds me of the documentary of Antz that I saw ... oops thats next to come ...

I wonder what would be the Degrees of Seperation of bloggers :) ... 2 or 3 maybe ?? just a thought :-?

Lalgudi composes for Sringaram

Image

after a slumber I was gettin my bearings n I stumled upon this as I grazed through the days tabloid ... usually its movies :) (I ain't a news paper guy) ... but I do scan the suppliment for interesting articles once is a while ... n I bumped into this one today ... I donned a wide smile as I saw his picture n ... laughing as I read along :)) ... this mas in simply A.M.A.Z.I.N.G !!!

I listen to quite a bit of music ... a dilettante enthusiast to be precise ... regardless of my adolescence I'd say I'v heard and savoured music to be eligible to express my opinion ... so I take that privilege ;;)

I'v never felt music dance to the whims of a person as him ... strictly classical i'd qualify that which I am talking about ... amma goes off-mark many times but when its lalgudi's and his lineage, the sweetness is soo obvious ... unmistakeable :x ... I don't remember it ever being loud ... as ppl wud say ghaneerunu ... but its soft and precise ... the string is crisp only to certain nuances ... but with them it always feels perfect ... even the barely noticeable ghamakams (which I'v begun noticing lately) are so vivid n just ... *perfect* ...

he is one of the most humble yet majestic person when he holds the violin ... n I'd luv an opportunity to hear him speak :) in person some day ... these trite things as they might seem will surface as a pride with which to brag to future generations ;) ... n I shall when I get my turn :>

the fact that he was upto a movie project took me by surprise ... as the old man says, the strong carnatic flavour of the movie was his incitement to take up this project ... needless to say a prodigy @ violin ... its his pieces that inspired me to take up this difficult to master string instrument ... I'm tryin what I can :) ...

for enthusiasts pleasure ... I'v given link to the article (follow the article title) ... O:) ... nsoi

Cloning ...

This post is a follow up to a BCC Documentary about cloning. I am a software guy and I will be bringing in some analogies to that later and use them for some arguments, so bear with me on that folks :).

Man always seeks to be god, In an eternal pursuit to win over the uncertainties of this world that rules over us. This characteristic is what sets us apart from other species in the planet. We choose the change the course as we see it.

Medical advances have increased the life-expectancy of a lot of people helping defy survival of the fittest to a certain degree. And the fore-front of today’s medical advances lies in technologies as stem cell research, genetics and cloning.

The 1st two many understand well and is subject to controversies as well, but the purpose of cloning to medical purpose is widely misconstrued. My first interest in this science (though very cursory) started with the book "Chromosome 66". I really liked the story and situations such as looking into the eyes of youself ;), being a captive to yourself, helping out yourself was an amazing thought, a good fiction indeed it was. Heard that the recent movie Island uses this for its plot. Okey no more digression :).

When people hear about cloning many imagine factories with embryos and developing bodies in assembly lines - Star Wars E2 would stand as an example for that ;) - the cloners making scores of Jango Fet’s (genetically altered). Looks like that galaxy far far away was not all that different technologically :). And of course horror stories of clones turned against and such crap. That is poor imagination :(. Why the interest of cloning to medicine? Is it a pure scientific pursuit of no consequence? Widely it is advertise as a means for people to have children who can't have one otherwise. But my belief is that cloning technology will specialize and prevail to provide replacement organs and body parts. And you own body’s stem cells n more which could help much more medicinal purpose.

So why all the apprehension about cloning? Most say it is unethical, that we tinker with god himself and such. Now I don't buy that, for you choose animals for you study but when it comes to man you are afraid. This is more like in men fearing the raising power of women during early periods. Surprising thing is that not enough opposition is raised against the untoward experiments with animals, while so with humans.

The problem in accepting this technology is the mishaps :(. Unable to exercise finer control, it is more often found that the genetic replication is not happening. The process is grossly infidel.

In humans the growth is controller by certain triggers set off precisely by our genome. This controls the size of various organs, by initiating their growth at the right times and stopping the growth when appropriate. Nature by itself makes mistakes and people with deformities and complications are born.I'd say that probably nature had as much flaw as the technology has today, producing flawed organism with no chance of survival. And over these eons, only that variations which is close to perfect has evolved and survived. Man on the other hand with our limited resource and time is trying the same, and expecting it to be flawless right away is not fair. I am not against condemning failings, but to deny a technology for such reasons, is imbecility. We don't stop doing something coz it didn't turn right, but we practice more to perfect it. That is science and the very tenet of humans.

Under laboratory conditions the replication is so imperfect that animals have been found to have arteries very large, while their heart is not able to pump blood. The possibilities of mishaps are limitless. The morbid fear of seeing such human disaster is seeking help from ethics and laws to keep the brave restrained. Scientists have always been in shackles on sensitive issues, and with time they have always surfaced.

I see a similar pattern in software as well. There are various kinds of software, some critical as flight control, medical equipment and some non-critical life enhancers as consumer software and such. So the attention drawn is commensurate to the perceived criticality. A system built with about 200 hands, it is very likely that one individual could misinterpret an others expression. This gives way to anomalies in the system, just as improper triggers from the human genome could set a cascade of untoward repercussions. System's crash, life FAILS. That’s why!!!

Just to mention that software is just as vulnerable as nature. When 1000's of parameter is a genome set things right, and the possibility of some going wrong can give way to a faulty creation, why is that software people subject to burlesque to such extents? I am not justifying flawed software, but you have to understand the complexity involved.

Just in support of s/w professionals, I'd compare a PC game against one that it written for an XBOX, PS and such. PC games never seem to be good enough. People complaint the graphics skips frames, too much disk access, network delays n all. While in XBOX or PS the game just seems to work fine as pristine as always. Reason, the environment that the s/w is subject to in PC is so variant that its is very hard to satisfy a whole lot, while in XBOX n PS the game are so tweaked to the well established environment.

I believe that human reproduction mechanism, the egg, sperm, embryo are all tailored to function very very close to perfect under their natural condition. Move them to laboratory conditions are you are in for surprises :). Stanching such technology (cloning) is the name of ethics in is absurd in my opinion, but harboring it under strict recommendations and regulations to avoid untoward happenings is a much more conducive option.

lets conclude with this famous quote - "Man achieves excellence, God achieves perfection" ... and as man expands his envelop of excellence, so much further he sees spans the envelope of perfection :) ... think folks

darn my office ... posting @ blogger does not work ... so I use blogger for word ... and that god damn thing removes all the formatting ... X-( grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! now its better ... hope the breakup is intact ... luks better 2 me :D

Any guess's

okie ... therz been plenty of fun with pun goin around me ... I made up another one ... Dinku is my darling PC ... I guess that explains its all ... any guess's what this is about folks?

no matter how careful you are ... leaks happen without control ...

just when you thought u were in full control, u realize it is nuthin more than an elusive dream ...

u can be wary ... but with growing pressure ... u loose control amidst too many things , and it seems inevitable

and the feeling when u'v brought it back under control ... maaaan!!! like ur on top of the world ...

as if you were god himself ... only to last until the next leak happens

who is it? ... is it a friend of mine? ... who is it? ... is my alter? ... who is it? somebody make a guess now ... who is it?

hope this doesn't take too long ...

Who is Dinku :-?

A buddy of mine started off with a challenge to make a write up within 55 words!!! A story or something humorous conveying a message … well I came up with this … this is real … not a story but an expression I’d say … a message about me and a part of me :)

"Dressed up she's hot, stripped naked I see her heart. Its fun screwing you up, my breath my soul. Solace through you I find in the best of hearts, 'Dinku' she is - my zero'th love in life. Until the day a new mother shall arrive, dance we shall to the whims of our hearts."

Fiction? I Dont think so ...

Dreams ... the basis for the inventive spirit of the human race ... easily provoked by the preternatural we stand to deny that which is seemingly impossible ... only to raise to another level ... okey coming to the point

If you watch quite a bit of sci-fi movies esp. those where space travel is prevalent, then at some point you would have encountered about putting a human into stasis until the long journey is complete ... I know many of my friends who misconstrue such imagination and empathize it with the bollywood masalas ... *shirk* ... but regardless of you believing in it or not this is becoming a reality

the roots of this comes from necromancy behind iron curtains for long ... as it is slowly uncovered the mystics turn out to be nothing more than manifestations of science for fiendish practices ... "that which people do not understand" is often associated with god and his endowments ...

"A zombie is a dead person that is brought back to life through means of Voodoo, destroying the mental processes of this person through the process." ... at the ulterior ... and for game buff's oooohh yeah they are waiting for you to fire at em all over DOOM :) ... those are the ones ... but quite different looks from the real zombies (who r not bereft of their body fluids and life)

Zombies have been a part and parcel of Haiti's culture ... the voodoo practitioners are known to bring people back from the grave ... and it is known that the victims always experienced death as in poisoning and such ... usually the voodoo practitioners themselves poison the victim for their later resurrection of the individual ... this is easily understood by the natives as miraculous and such ... but how is it possible to bring a dead person alive?

the east gives some clues to this ... the puffer fish ... which hosts a nerve poison for defense and is a risky delicacy as well ... the liver and blood of it having high concentrations ... usually removed before consumption ... in small dozes it completely paralyzes the human body ... and at certain dozes makes the body to seem medically dead ... a little overdose and it kills

Can u imagine being in a body, sensing things around ... but not being able to move or say anything ... people around you promulgating your death and burying you, while you were still alive...

this is how zombies are made ... in Haiti the witch doctors usually break the graves within bout 12 hours of the burial ... after which the victim is likely to die in the coffin ... i.e. if the victim did survive the toxin ... the chances of bringing back a person is 1 in 60 ... a pungent combination of ammonia and another substance used as the antidote ... n its quite obvious as to why those people show mental decline (having been exposed to the toxins)

all these stories apart it makes one wonder ... is it possible to put the human body in stasis for long periods? well if a groud squirrel can hibernate for 6 months, almost stopping its metabolism (with almost non-existent heart beats) ... what would it take for the human body to do it ... we are not designed for it naturally ... but would anything such as this toxin and otherwise help achieve it? ... I believe it is only a matter of time and need

Disclaimer: the information I express here are based on a BBC documentary and the accuracy is unwarranted, subject to the authors interpretation, perception and opinions :) ... these are not recommendations or preaching but just an informal discourse ... btw this is not my profession ... just that I can't keep myself idle ;)

Veritas et Acquitas

very few action movies really stand out ... on one hand I love movies which are plainly simple and suave ... this one is ... a lot of interesting dialogues ;) catchin my attention every now and then ... only irritating part was the profligate usage of 'F' word ... I'v completely given up the very little I did ... so it was repulsive ... :(

admitted that there was enough profanity and the vile, but for one thing thats the reality and secondly that was not the point ...

not too complicated ... two guys taking people down on a mission for life ... n culmination in a reunion and promulgation to the world ... reminds me of travolta's (a character with no name) perspective in swordfish - "what if the villian just got away n lives happily thereafter ... what if" ... this movie was kind of like that ... a morality tale it was but overall fun

this movie came out in '99 n I have not even heard about it ... and yes ... you can watch this movie a couple of times ... the simple plot was just appealing to me ... one of my favourite lines was -

"We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, And that is the indifference of good men"

how true :) ... the movie - "The Boondock Saints" ... just amazing ... and I recommend it for people who love such movies ...

Deterministic Chaos

the hiatus was too much ... so I'll break it and keep it brief as well ... this thought was instigated when I was in bangalore recently with some science buffs ...

when people speak science and use jargons many express a fit of revulsion ... woooow out of phase ... well the fact of the matter is that these people make simple observations in life, the perusal of which gives ways to branches of science ...

okie let me keep this simple ... ur having ur coffee ... resting ur arm at the table and all of a sudden a jolt causes it to spill a bit oops ... ur caretaker (mother / spouse) is not around n it just dries-up ... n u move on ... when ur caretaker is back they find it dried up and just decide to whipe it clean ... NO WAIT ... did u observe a pattern in which it dried up ... the center portion is empty while only the edges have concentrated ... hmm thats wierd ... this is where a scientists thinks different ... why? (not why do they think :p ... but why to what they observed)

it is an effect of the angle at which the fluid hits the surface ... still not yet completely characterized and is under study ...

another thing that caught my attention was the words "Deterministic Chaos" ... hold on a sec ... what kind of self-contradicting stuff is this ... so I grabbed the buk n ran through a few pages ... n it spurred some interpretations in my mind ... what is chaos? ... reminds me of how the X-Ray got its name ... well they didn't have a clue as to what it was and hence the name ... just as variables in seq x,y etc in mathematics :) ... as I read more, this clause caught my attention -

"Chaos is the rule in nature, not an exception"

these chaos theories and stuff go on to say why newtonian world (where laws are governed by the laws of motion and such promulgated by newton) is far from perfect ... relativity and quantum physics sought to explain its follies ... Chaos theory seems to be the next big thing ... no more specifics ...

what is chaos? ... that in which we do not see a pattern .. well science defines it as - when u cannot predict the system accurately over prolonged periods ... fair enough ... now dyu see why is weather forecast so very difficult ...

chaos originates in a lot of ways ... every system start @ T0 with some initial conditions ... with infinetesimally small variations, the result can often seem chaotic ... quite simply given to some missing attributes in the system that we fail to comprehend ... it is said that even dust can affect the weather and climatic changes in the globe ... startled? ... I guess it too conspicuous now ...

computers have a certain limit of precision ... and this gives way to deviations from the actual path of a system during simulations ... and these minor imprecisions can cause major changes in the simulations ... which is why weather simulations seem quite whimsical in subsequent runs ...

amazing isn't it? there is so much more in this world that we do not comprehend ... belive me science is not about obscurity as many think ... and not as arcane as people believe ... we just try to explain the most simplistic of things in nature ... hope a few souls are convinced about the mathematics and science that surrounds us ... wish more folks would embrace this just as much as philosophy and stuff ... u don't need to be a geek to understand science ...

a short primer on Deterministic Chaos for those interested ... google for more ;)
